From Tuesday’s election: the road ahead

We've been at this for a while. We must keep at it.

Good afternoon,

Yesterday we woke up to a new reality. The road ahead was already difficult, and now it will be harder. In the years ahead, we will undoubtedly face fiercer attacks on our communities.

Still, there are some silver linings in the election results. Our coalition's referendum on the South Shore CBA ordinance won by nearly 90% in all precincts, in the 8th and 7th wards. And Jitu Brown, board president of our longtime ally the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization, was elected to the Chicago school board, as were several other allies.

We have built real power. We are hopeful that we can build on our foundation -- that we can stretch and grow -- so that we may rise to this moment.

We must try to make sense of this moment together and with our community. We have to direct the anger toward action, toward organizing. With that in mind, we wanted to share two Zoom calls you can join today to help make sense of the moment.

National allies at the Movement for Black Lives are having a virtual event today at 5pm. It's at m4bl.link/nov7

Allies at the Working Families Party, based in New York, are having a virtual event today at 7pm.

More to come soon. In the meantime, let's stay involved, check in with each other, and continue to build.

Onward!

The team at STOP, soon to be Southside Together
