Trauma-center town hall report

Thanks to all those who came out to our Trauma Center Town Hall Meeting. Over 100 community members, students, doctors, nurses, faith leaders and others came out. At the meeting residents expressed frustration and anger over the lack of a south side trauma center, this anger however was matched by the energy and excitement to do something to change this.

At the meeting the University of Chicago Hospital committed to meet with us again and to participate in a meeting with Advocate Trinity and other Hospitals to discuss a collaborative trauma center. State Senator Mattie Hunter committed to hold a hearing on the issue. US Congressman Bobby Rush’s staff committed to continue fighting for legislation to get funding for trauma care. And Alderman Willie Cochran committed to support our efforts.

Our next steps are to continue growing our base of supporters by doing outreach, including this Saturday October 12. Meet at the STOP office at 10am 602 E 61st ST. We will also be organizing a Trauma Center Coalition meeting and organizing an action in the coming month. So stay tuned! Trauma Center Now!
